Overview

University Health, in collaboration with The University of Texas College of Pharmacy and the University of the Incarnate Word Feik School of Pharmacy, is pleased to offer a Postgraduate Year 2 (PGY2) pharmacy residency in ambulatory care. This 12-month residency is designed to provide a challenging training environment for individuals interested in developing clinical competency in the area of ambulatory care pharmacy practice.

As full-time employees of University Health, residents receive a competitive annual stipend of $62,000 plus excellent employee benefits. Residents are also appointed as Clinical Instructors with The University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy and University of the Incarnate Word Feik School of Pharmacy.

Purpose

PGY2 pharmacy residency programs build on Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) education and PGY1 pharmacy residency programs to contribute to the development of clinical pharmacists in specialized practice. PGY2 residencies provide residents with opportunities to function independently as practitioners by conceptualizing and integrating accumulated experience and knowledge and incorporating both into the provision of patient care or other advanced practice settings. Residents who successfully complete an accredited PGY2 pharmacy residency are prepared for advanced patient care, academic, or other specialized positions, along with board certification, if available.

Description

The University Health PGY2 Ambulatory Care Pharmacy Residency Program provides a challenging, well-rounded training environment that will expose residents to a variety of chronic disease states and clinical practice settings. In addition to community involvement and direct patient care of ambulatory patients, residents will have opportunities to develop their academic skills by precepting pharmacy students and teaching other learners such as medical students and medical residents. Residents will also demonstrate leadership and practice management skills through completion of an ambulatory care research project, committee involvement, and protocol development. Graduates of the program are prepared to take clinical pharmacy specialist and faculty positions related to ambulatory care.
