Overview

University Health, in collaboration with The University of Texas College of Pharmacy and the University of the Incarnate Word Feik School of Pharmacy, is pleased to offer a Postgraduate Year 2 (PGY2) pharmacy residency in infectious diseases. This 12-month residency is designed to provide a challenging training environment for individuals interested in developing clinical competency in the area of infectious diseases.

As full-time employees of University Health, residents receive a competitive annual stipend of $62,000 plus excellent employee benefits. Residents are also appointed as Clinical Instructors with The University of Texas at Austin College of Pharmacy and University of the Incarnate Word Feik School of Pharmacy.

Purpose

PGY2 residency programs build upon Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) education and PGY1 pharmacy residency training to develop pharmacist practitioners with knowledge, skills, and abilities as defined in the educational competency areas, goals, and objectives for advanced practice areas. Residents who successfully complete PGY2 residency programs are prepared for advanced patient care or other specialized positions, and board certification in the advanced practice area, if available.

Description

The University Health PGY2 Infectious Diseases Pharmacy Residency Program provides a challenging, well-rounded training environment including a variety of infectious diseases states seen in a variety of clinical areas, including but not limited to:

• General medicine and surgery
• Surgical/trauma ICU
• Neuroscience ICU
• Medicine ICU
• Oncology
• HIV
• Emergency medicine
• Cardiology/cardiothoracic surgery
• Solid organ transplant

Residents will have opportunities to care for adult and pediatric patients and teach and precept pharmacy students.

In addition, residents will demonstrate leadership and practice management skills and complete an infectious diseases research project. Graduates of the program are prepared to take clinical pharmacy specialist and faculty positions related to infectious diseases.
