Following a stroke or brain injury, returning to normal walking might be your top priority. Early intervention is crucial to avoid developing poor walking habits. Physical therapists at University Health can offer you some of the most advanced technology to get you back on your feet.
What Is “Foot Drop”?
After sustaining damage to their brain or muscles, some people experience “foot drop.” This means that the front of your foot drags as you walk because it is difficult or impossible to control your movements. Sometimes, people with foot drop will lift their leg higher to help their foot come off the ground. This creates an unnatural gait that can be difficult to remedy later. We offer therapy to help correct this.
At University Health's outpatient rehabilitation, our dedicated physical therapy team uses the Bioness® L300 Plus for Foot Drop & Thigh Weakness System. This assists in improving walking and balance if you suffer from foot drop and thigh weakness.
What Is the Bioness® L300?
The Bioness® L300 Foot Drop System is a wireless medical device you can wear on your foot to help relearn walking.
The Foot Drop System works by stimulating nerves and muscles in your legs with electricity. By activating the right nerves, it helps your leg move more naturally as you walk.

What to Expect
Depending on your unique needs and goals, you could spend few minutes per session using the Bioness® L300, or use it the entire session. At University Health, there is no one-size-fits-all solution.
You will meet with your physical therapist in a one-on-one session. If they think you would benefit from using the Bioness® L300, they will do an assessment with it. We also provide an extension that attaches to your thigh, if you need extra assistance moving your whole leg.
