Women’s & Children’s Hospital

The University Health Women’s & Children’s Hospital provides much-needed facilities to meet the needs of our growing community and region.

Funded with no tax rate increase, it provides:

  • A new 14-story, 300-bed hospital for women, babies and children
  • New 900-space parking garage
  • Dining and Conference Center
  • SaludArte: Healing Arts program

A place for compassionate, quality care

This is a place where women, children and their families are surrounded with all of the experts and technologies to provide the highest level of compassionate care. It is the first hospital in South Texas exclusively focused on the unique needs of women and children.

The Hospital Will Deliver Excellence for Moms and Babies

As an academic medical center, in partnership with UT Health San Antonio, University Hospital is South Texas’ first Level IV maternal care facility. This means that your team is uniquely prepared for high-risk deliveries and complications that can occur with any pregnancy.

We are one team of maternal, neonatal and pediatric specialists caring for mother and baby through every step of the pregnancy and delivery.

We have big plans for our tiniest patients

When a baby is born too soon or with a serious congenital condition, our Level IV neonatal intensive care unit team is here to provide the care needed.

  • Single-family rooms arranged in pods to optimize quality, comfort and efficiency
  • Space for family member to stay overnight and a warm welcoming environment to promote healing and bonding
  • Advanced treatments and diagnostic tools
  • Family center with a lounge and educational resources

Services for Children

Our Children’s Health specialists provide the comprehensive care for sick and injured children.

The new hospital features:

  • Specialized care teams
  • Oversized, kid-friendly private rooms
  • Pediatric rehab gyms
  • A Child Life center with a performance area and game room

University Hospital

The million-square-foot 10-story Sky Tower at University Hospital in the South Texas Medical Center opened in April 2014.

The Sky Tower includes:

  • Expanded Emergency Department (84 beds)
  • Two floors of surgical suites (35 total operating rooms)
  • 420 new private inpatient hospital rooms, some with private courtyards and the capability to be converted to suites (for a total of 716 rooms)
  • Convenient room service for patient meals
  • Advanced technology throughout
  • Three healing gardens to provide respite for patients, visitors and staff
  • Comfortable areas for families to gather
  • Ample parking in newly designed garage and surface lots

Robert B. Green Campus

A 269,000 square foot six-story Clinical Pavilion on the historic Robert B. Green Campus Downtown opened in January 2013.

Comprehensive services include:

  • Primary care, specialists and preventive health services
  • Pediatric Comprehensive care to include primary care and over a dozen specialty care services
  • Radiology, including nuclear medicine, CAT scan, MRI, mammography, X-ray and ultrasound
  • Outpatient surgery center
  • Laboratory services
  • Pharmacy

Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design

LEED Gold awardThe Sky Tower at University Hospital and the Clinical Pavilion at Robert B. Green Campus have been awarded the U.S. Green Building Council’s LEED Gold Certification for its environmentally friendly design and construction.

LEED, or Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design, is an internationally recognized rating system that provides third-party verification of green buildings. Those ratings are based on factors such as sustainability, water and energy efficiency, materials use and indoor air quality.

LEED-certified buildings are designed to:

  • Lower operating costs and increase asset value
  • Reduce waste sent to landfills
  • Conserve energy and water
  • Be healthier and safer for occupants
  • Reduce harmful greenhouse gas emissions
  • Qualify for tax rebates, zoning allowances and other incentives in hundreds of cities
