A new tradition: University Health Foundations inaugural scholarship ceremony
As we reflect on the past year with gratitude and admiration for all that has been made possible through the generosity of our donors, University Health Foundation is proud to have introduced a new tradition that further highlights the impact of our scholarship programs. On Dec. 2, 2025, we hosted our Inaugural Scholarship Ceremony, celebrating 28 outstanding University Health team members who received donor-funded scholarships in 2025.
Each honoree was recognized for receiving one of the following scholarships:
- Reach for the Stars
- Nursing Scholarship
- Allied Health Scholarship
- George B. Hernandez Health Care Administration Scholarship
- Eric Daniel Hernandez Scholarship
- Emma’s Path Therapy Certification Scholarship
- Kapur Family Ambulatory Nursing Scholarship
The ceremony featured inspiring remarks from Bill Phillips, chief operating officer of University Health, and Sara Alger, president of University Health Foundation, who both spoke about education and its lasting impact on our team members, patients and community.
We were also honored to welcome several of the generous donors who make these opportunities possible, including vice president of University Health Payer Relations Kevin Barron, his wife Melissa and their daughter Emma; as well as Dr. Monica Kapur, president of University Medicine Associates, and her family. Each donor met with their scholarship recipients and witnessed how their generosity is directly transforming the lives and careers of our team members.
While many of our scholarships were celebrated during the ceremony, we also look ahead to honoring another special group of recipients this summer through the Our Sons & Daughters (OSD) Scholarship Program. These young scholars, sons and daughters of University Health team members, are preparing to graduate high school and embark on their own journeys into higher education. As they begin navigating toward a legacy of service modeled by their parents, the OSD Scholarship will provide them with a spark of confidence to believe in their biggest educational dreams and highest career aspirations.
Be sure to read our story highlighting how an OSD Scholarship impacted a previous recipient at the very beginning of her educational journey.
We would like to express congratulations again to each of the individuals honored last month for taking the initiative, staying determined and finding the support to help them advance their education in service of our community.
