Raising awareness and giving back: Human Bean’s Coffee for a Cure fundraiser
On a special October day last year, the air was alive with the delicious smell of freshly brewed coffee at The Human Bean.
With two locally owned locations, both drive-thru coffee shops were busy turning shots of bold espresso, signature beverages and tasty treats into a way to give back to the community. Through their annual Coffee for a Cure fundraiser, 100% of the proceeds from that day benefited University Health Foundation’s Women’s Health Fund.
The Women’s Health Fund in part aids with breast cancer screenings and diagnostics, making it a valuable resource to help women across Bexar County access life-saving care. To commemorate the nationwide 20th anniversary of Coffee for a Cure, a symbolic pink drink was added to the menu. Local owner Adrian De La Rosa shared, “Coffee for a Cure is a meaningful opportunity for us to turn something as simple as a cup of coffee into real support for people who need it most.”
Team members from University Health Foundation were directly involved in the effort. While dropping in to connect, the team met co-owner Carlos De La Rosa and each patron who cruised through with a grateful smile and shared the mission to improve the good health of the community. With every cup creating transformative care, the java buzz provided an extra spark! Coffee lovers felt uplifted knowing that they were stepping up in the fight against breast cancer.
“Our customers were extremely supportive and enthusiastic. Many of them shared personal stories or expressed appreciation for the cause, which made the day even more meaningful. We saw great participation, and it was clear that our community really embraced the initiative,” added Adrian.
Fueled by a shared sense of purpose and generosity, more than $4,000 was raised during the fundraising event. University Health Foundation is thankful to the De La Rosa family and the entire Human Bean team for holding a remarkable fundraiser. Their impact is a powerful story of kindness in action and a strong example of how third-party fundraising expands purpose-driven change by coming together.
