Nodular Regenerative Hyperplasia

Nodular Regenerative Hyperplasia
Nodular regenerative hyperplasia (NRH) refers to the benign transformation of liver tissue to contain small nodules (often very small <3 mm size) in response to blood flow changes in the liver.

This is an unusual condition and diagnosis is made with a liver biopsy. Given that signs and symptoms of NRH can be similar to those of cirrhosis, a biopsy is needed in order to make sure it is NRH.

NRH may be associated with or due to rheumatologic disorders, hematologic disorders, congenital disorders, or medications. Thus, management of NRH includes treating the underlying disorder/association and other related symptoms.
