Pediatric Orthopedic Testing & Diagnosis
An accurate diagnosis begins with a full evaluation of your child. Our first step is a hands-on assessment of your child’s condition or injury. The next step is performing imaging tests and sometimes other tests, depending on the condition being treated.
We use imaging tests for many orthopedic conditions to determine the issue. For sports-related injuries, we must assess how serious the injury is so we can recommend the best path toward your child’s recovery.
Orthopedic Evaluation Testing
- Imaging tests: X-ray scans, computerized tomography (CT) scans and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) create pictures of your child’s bones so the physician can diagnose the problem.
- Arthroscopy: During this minimally invasive test, the surgeon inserts a thin tube into the joint through a small incision. A tiny camera at the end of the tube allows the surgeon to see the inside of the joint and make a diagnosis. In some cases, the surgeon can repair joint damage using this procedure.
Getting Test Results
Depending on the test and your child’s condition, your child’s doctor will explain the results of the test either immediately or at a follow-up appointment.
