University Hospital earns an A Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group
New Grade for Fall 2023 is a national recognition for excellent patient safety
University Hospital has earned an “A” Hospital Safety Grade from The Leapfrog Group, a national nonprofit watchdog that sets standards for excellence in patient care. Leapfrog assigns an “A,” “B,” “C,” “D” or “F” grade to hospitals across the country based on more than 30 national performance measures reflecting errors, accidents, injuries and infections, as well as the systems that hospitals have in place to prevent harm.
“This is an exceptional accomplishment,” said Dr. Bryan Alsip, University Health Chief Medical Officer. “This year we achieved our highest safety score ever, earning an “A” by reducing hospital-acquired infections and surgical complications while enhancing patient safety. Beyond improving our standards of care and clinical documentation, we have also excelled at offering high-quality, compassionate care to our patients.” Achieving the “A” grade required consistent focus and collaborative, interdisciplinary teamwork throughout our organization.
The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only hospital ratings program exclusively based on hospital prevention of medical errors, infections and injuries that kill more than 500 patients a day nationally. The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is peer-reviewed, fully transparent and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.
