Texas AM Vashisht College of Medicine and University Health to Sign Historic Partnership Agreement
BACKGROUND: This week, leaders from Texas A&M University and University Health will officially sign an affiliation agreement marking a historic move to train and retain more physicians to serve South Texas’ growing population. The signing ceremony will take place at Texas A&M University-San Antonio, which will also be the location for this new medical education program.
Beginning in the fall of 2028, Texas A&M University Naresh K. Vashisht College of Medicine faculty physicians will provide care, and medical students will begin clinical rotations, at University Health’s Palo Alto Hospital, currently under construction on San Antonio’s South Side.
This new affiliation agreement will significantly elevate San Antonio’s standing as a premier destination for advanced medical care, innovation and discovery. Health care is already one of the top drivers of the San Antonio economy and this new partnership paves the way for San Antonio to join an elite group of cities in the U.S. with three medical schools. The agreement complements University Health’s longstanding affiliation with the UT Health San Antonio Long School of Medicine and more recent affiliation with the University of the Incarnate Word School of Osteopathic Medicine.
