University Health to conduct free car seat inspections at Seat Check Saturday
University Health will be at Losoya Intermediate School Saturday, Sept. 24 from 9 to 11 a.m. offering free car seat inspections. Attendees can visit with one of our certified technicians to ensure the car seat in their vehicle is properly installed.
The event will teach caregivers how to install their child’s car seat or booster seat, and explain if it is time to change the seat. Registration is encouraged but not required.
"Most parents think their kids are in the right seats and that the seats are installed the right way," said Jennifer Northway, director of injury prevention with University Health, "but the reality is that nearly half of car seats are installed incorrectly, leaving kids vulnerable to injury in a crash. National Seat Check Saturday is an opportunity for parents to make sure their children are safe in their car seats and booster seats."
University Health is the leader of Safe Kids San Antonio, a coalition of organizations dedicated to keeping your kids safe. Through the coalition, we host car seat checkups and offer free installation education throughout the community.
We are proud to partner with Toyota Motor North America, TxDOT, Bexar County ESD #2 and Southside ISD for National Seat Check Saturday. Join us for fun kid activities while parents receive educational material and hands-on instruction from our onsite experts.
Motor vehicle crashes are a leading cause of death for children, and the latest research from National Highway Traffic Safety Administration shows that 46% of car seats are misused. Northway added that using age- and size-appropriate car seats and installing them correctly are the best ways to reduce crash fatalities among children.
