University Health offers sneak peek of the new Hope Hits Harder Child Life Center in the Women’s and Children’s Hospital
Tom “Tbone” Bounds measures the value of a person’s heart by what they do for others, and for years he and his Hope Hits Harder Foundation have been helping children with cancer throughout San Antonio. Tomorrow at 12:15 p.m. Bounds will get a sneak peek at his latest and most generous gift – the Hope Hits Harder Child Life Center, in memory of Jana Bounds, in the new University Health Women’s & Children’s Hospital.
Hope Hits Harder contributed $1 million to create the new Child Life Center, and furnished it with opportunities for play and imagination to help children feel better and get their minds off of illness and injury. It’s the physical embodiment of Bounds’ desire to help others who are faced with the same sense of helplessness he felt when his wife Jana was diagnosed with cancer. At the time, their daughter Jaqueline was only 3 years old. Now Jacqueline Kolski is director of marketing and events for Hope Hits Harder, and works alongside her father to continue the legacy of giving.
“The purpose is showing love,” Bounds said. “The center gets you away from being a patient and lets you have fun.”
Among the many other ways Bounds and Hope Hits Harder contribute is the sponsorship of Magik Theatre performances for pediatric patients at University Hospital. Magik Theatre artists will perform Eddie and Vinnie for children tomorrow at 1 p.m.
