National Seat Check Saturday is September 21, the perfect time to ensure your child’s car seat or booster is installed in your vehicle correctly. Safe Kids San Antonio, led by University Health, and our partners are hosting a community event to help ensure children are safe and secure on the road. Certified technicians will be conducting onsite inspections.
National Highway Traffic Safety Administration data revealed that Texas had the highest number of child traffic fatalities nationwide in 2022.
“Properly used car seats and boosters save lives and children should be secured in both longer than most realize. Even experienced parents may need tips and tricks to protect their child when riding in a car or truck,” said Jennifer Northway, director of injury prevention at University Health.
Many adults know that infants should be secured in rear-facing car seats but caregivers often forget that most older children should be secured in a booster seat until they reach eight years old. Is your child in the proper safety seat for their age, height and weight?
“We invite everyone to join us at Seat Check Saturday to have a certified technician check to ensure each child is properly and adequately secured,” Northway said.
Certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians will thoroughly check children’s car seats, booster seats or seat belts inside vehicles at this event. Caregivers will learn how to install a seat and if it’s time to change their child's seat.
