University Health named a San Antonio Top Workplace

University Health has been awarded a Top Workplaces 2026 honor by San Antonio Express-News. This list is based solely on employee feedback gathered through a third-party survey administered by employee engagement technology partner Energage LLC. Nearly 4,800 University Health team members responded to the confidential survey, which uniquely measures the employee experience and its component themes. Those themes include employees feeling respected & supported, enabled to grow, and empowered to execute.

“Every day, our employees bring compassion, skill and dedication to the people who place their trust in us,” said University Health President and CEO Edward Banos. “We want each team member to feel respected, supported and empowered, because when our people are at their best, they can provide the very best care for our patients. Receiving this recognition again is especially meaningful because it reflects the voices of our employees. I am deeply grateful for all they do and proud of the caring, supportive culture we continue to build together.”

As the only locally owned and operated health system in San Antonio and Bexar County, University Health takes to heart its responsibility to serve the health needs of the community today and into the future. University Health is also one of the largest local employers and expanding rapidly, with two hospitals and more than 30 outpatient clinics, as well as two new hospitals under construction and a third recently purchased and under renovation in the Medical Center. University Health Palo Alto Hospital, on the South Side across from Texas A&M–San Antonio, and University Health Retama Hospital, along the I-35 corridor north of Loop 1604, will open in early 2027. University Health Babcock will open later next year. Additionally, two new multispecialty health centers—University Health Vida on the South Side and University Health Wheatley on the East Side—recently opened.

“Earning a Top Workplaces award is a badge of honor for companies, especially because it comes authentically from their employees,” said Eric Rubino, Energage CEO. “That's something to be proud of. In today's market, leaders must ensure they’re allowing employees to have a voice and be heard. That's paramount. Top Workplaces do this, and it pays dividends.”

As South Texas' academic medical center, University Health provides the highest level of care for the most serious illnesses and injuries.
