Residency Programs
Teaching the Next Generation
As an academic medical center, University Health is positioned to provide chaplains/spiritual care providers, pharmacy, nursing and perinatal-neonatal nursing residents with a superior clinical education and the necessary resources to successfully complete residency training.
The residency programs for BSNs bridge the gap between undergraduate education and “real life” professional nursing practice. The pharmacy residency program develops highly qualified independent practitioners and establishes a solid foundation of clinical practice. The chaplaincy program provides faith leaders and lay leaders, opportunities to develop necessary self-awareness, spiritual and professional skills to become a professional chaplain or simply to advance their skills as a spiritual care provider.
Nurse Residency Program
The nurse residency program in partnership with Vizient is a one-year program for new graduates who are employed as staff nurses on clinical units and in ambulatory settings.
Pharmacy Residency Program
The purpose of the postgraduate pharmacy residency program is to prepare pharmacists for practice in a variety of settings. Postgraduate pharmacists can choose the one-year Pharmacy residency, the two-year Critical Care Pharmacy residency, the two-year Emergency Medicine Pharmacy residency or the two-year Transplant Pharmacy residency.
Physician Residency
Medical school graduates (MDs) will find physician residency information about the partnership between University Health and UT Health San Antonio. Physician residents who do their clinical rotations at University Health will learn about the vision, philosophy, benefits, the academic medical center environment, diversity of patient culture and more.
Chaplain Residency
The purpose of the chaplain residency is to enhance the self-understanding and spiritual care skills for those preparing for professional competency as a spiritual care provider. The residency is a requirement for those seeking board certification as professional chaplains through nationally recognized chaplaincy certifying bodies.
