University Health provides some of the finest cancer care for children and adults in South Texas. Our cancer programs are accredited by the American College of Surgeons Commission on Cancer. This accreditation assures that we provide access to a range of services needed to diagnose, treat, rehabilitate and support cancer patients and their families.
In addition, our cancer program is recognized as a designated Center of Excellence by the insurance carrier OptumHealth.
University Health also is one of only four organizations in Texas recognized as a Breast Center of Excellence. This honor from the National Quality Measures for Breast Centers represents a commitment to provide the highest level of quality breast cancer care to patients.
We are also recognized for our Adolescent and Young Adult (AYA) Cancer Program, which is dedicated to the unique medical and psychosocial needs of patients aged 15 to 39.

Cancer Screening, Prevention and Treatment

Our cancer screening and prevention program offers comprehensive cancer risk assessments and risk-reduction strategies for individuals with a higher risk of cancer due to hereditary or genetic factors.

- Coordinate genetic testing and explain what the results of a genetic test mean for the patient and their family members
- Provide personalized cancer screening recommendations

- Offer up-to-date information on research opportunities in cancer treatment
University Hospital has an onsite outpatient infusion center. Our mobile vascular access team uses state-of-the-art equipment to provide specialized care.
